Faith, Family, and the Fork in the Road: Daphne Moss on Choosing God's Path

In this heartfelt episode of Won’t God Do It, Dr. Anita Turner welcomes Daphne Moss—a vibrant educator, mother, and woman of faith—who shares a powerful testimony of how God has directed every step of her journey, from childhood through single motherhood and a decades-long teaching career.

A Childhood Rooted in Faith and Service

Raised in Los Angeles by loving, God-fearing parents who were both educators, Daphne's life was built on faith, family, and discipline. Early involvement in church ministries shaped her deeply, especially one unique tradition: children learning lessons and then teaching them back to adult congregants. This helped her internalize God's Word and build confidence in her spiritual walk.

That foundation of faith would become her anchor in life’s more trying seasons.

Resisting the Call to Teach—Then Embracing It Fully

Though raised by educators, Daphne initially resisted following in their footsteps. She wanted to counsel students, not teach them. But God had other plans. A chance opportunity through an emergency teaching credential introduced her to the classroom—and she never looked back.

Over a 38-year career, Daphne served as a classroom teacher, advisor, and coach across Compton and Los Angeles Unified School Districts. She poured into her students with passion and excellence, embodying her personal motto: “Love and respect for all of God’s people.”

A Single Mom’s Story of Provision and Purpose

When Daphne found herself a single mother to a two-year-old and a newborn, she leaned even more on her faith and community. With limited financial resources, she depended on the “village” of church, family, and fellow educators to help raise her children. She returned to work just five weeks postpartum—not out of ambition, but necessity.

Yet through every obstacle, she taught her children life lessons rooted in faith, often using everyday experiences—like choosing between roads during their morning commute—as spiritual metaphors. These “forks in the road” became symbolic reminders of God’s grace and redirection.

A Legacy of Education and Faith

Her children thrived. Her son, Michael, fulfilled his childhood dream of attending Morehouse College and is now a successful program manager in supplier diversity. Her daughter, Brittany, now a kindergarten teacher and minister, earned a Master of Divinity from Wake Forest. Both carry the values instilled in them by their mother—resilience, faith, and service.

Encouragement for the Journey

Daphne leaves viewers with this message: “God already knows the detours we’ll take, but He always provides a way back. Whether you're a single mom, an educator, or someone unsure of your direction—trust God. He will place the right people in your life and show up in ways that will overwhelm you with His love.”

Won’t God do it? Yes, He will.
